Marinescu beats Brundle to pole

Mihai Marinescu edged out Alex Brundle to secure his first pole position of the season at Monza. Having finished second fastest in both practice sessions, the Romanian built upon his strong opening to set a 1m40.071s, which was enough to earn him his best qualifying result of the year. "I'm very happy about it and very pleased that it's happened right here at Monza which is a very special place for me," Marinescu said.

Ogier hangs on as Sordo closes in

Sebastien Ogier continues to lead the Rally of France - but Dani Sordo is closing in again. Although Citroen driver Ogier managed to pull out a 9.5-second advantage over the chasing Mini yesterday afternoon, Sordo was quicker on today's opener Graviere de Bischwiller, fastest of all on Vignoble de Cleebourg, then equalled Ogier on the Haguenau street stage.
